Microsoft has just unveiled the second-generation Surface Laptop, and just like it was the case of the Surface Pro 6, most of the attention goes to the hardware department.

In other words, there are basically no changes in terms of design and look, but you get more powerful hardware, which in turn should substantially improve performance.

Surface Laptop 2 also comes with a black version, which will we offered alongside the existing colors like Platinum, Burgundy, and Cobalt Blue.

The black version, which also made its way to the Surface Pro 6, was first used on the original Surface RT launched in October 2012, but Microsoft then replaced it with silver on later Surface models.

Surface Laptop 2 can be ordered with Intel Core 8th Gen processors, and there are two options, either i5 or i7. Both versions are paired with an Intel UHD Graphics 620 card.

Microsoft is selling the laptop with 8GB or 16GB RAM, and storage goes all the way up to 1TB. The entry-level comes with just 128GB.

No USB-C port

Surface Laptop 2 does not come with USB-C, and connectivity options are the same as on the older model, which means you get one USB 3.0 port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Mini DisplayPort, one Surface Connect port, and that’s it.

One interesting tidbit is that the new-generation Surface Laptop is powered by Windows 10 Home, as compared to the original model which was sold with Windows 10 S (now called Windows 10 in S Mode) pre-installed. The commercial version of the Laptop 2 is sold with Windows 10 Pro.

Pricing begins at $999 for the Intel Core i5 version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage (only available in Platinum), and goes all the way up to $2,699 for the Intel Core i7 configuration with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.

Surface Laptop 2 is already available for pre-order, and shipping is projected to begin on October 16.
