Bluetooth Surface-branded keyboard in the works

Microsoft might be planning on launching a Bluetooth Surface-branded keyboard that could help expand the company in the hardware accessory market, but at the same time, might also provide us with a glimpse into a future product that could see daylight as soon as next month.

German site WinFuture has spotted the Bluetooth SIG listing for the new keyboard, but there are no details available for the time being other than its name. The keyboard is called “Surface Ergonomic Keyboard” and uses Bluetooth to connect to a computer.

And while at first glance this doesn’t show too much, it’s believed that the keyboard could launch with the Surface all-in-one PC that’s expected to be unveiled in October.

The Surface AIO

Rumors on a potential Surface PC have been around for a while and sources hinted that Microsoft was aiming to take the wraps off the device during a hardware event in late October.

The Surface PC could come in the form of an all-in-one computer similar to the MacBook, so a Bluetooth keyboard actually makes sense. If this is true, the Surface keyboard will be available with both the device and separately, but it’s still a little bit too late to speculate on this.

On the other hand, if it’s indeed launched with a Bluetooth keyboard, the Surface AIO could take on the Apple MacBook with a similar approach, as Cupertino is also offering a Bluetooth keyboard for its PC. Chances are, however, that the Surface PC could also be sold with a wired keyboard, as Microsoft already has several models on the market.

Certainly, the Surface product lineup will expand with new devices very soon and October will certainly be an interesting month. Other new models, including the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2, are expected in the spring of 2017, when Microsoft is believed to be planning another hardware event to refresh its existing lineup with hardware and software updates.
