14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft launched Windows 10 RTM on July 29 and the company is now expected to roll out a major update for the operating system sometime next month, but it's another release that's very likely to bring significant enhancements.
Codenamed Redstone, the next major update for Windows 10 is projected to debut in 2016, and according to a report by WinBeta, it is already in the works behind the closed doors at Microsoft.
Details are quite vague right now, but it turns out that Microsoft is still advancing with baby steps as far as the development of Windows 10 Redstone is concerned, as it's still too early for the company to focus more on this update.
The very early flavors of Redstone are 99 percent similar to Windows 10, the aforementioned source adds, and the first builds of the update, with full string rs_onecore_mqbase1, have already been spotted online.
Redstone expected in 2016
As said, there are lots of uncertain things right now, but it appears that Microsoft plans to roll out Redstone approximately one year after Windows 10, which means that it could arrive during the summer of 2016.
Previous reports on the same update pointed out that Redstone could be rolled out in two different waves, one in the spring and another one in the fall of the next year, but Microsoft might be changing this strategy because this update might actually represent the next version of Windows.
Microsoft said that no new standalone versions of Windows would be launched and future releases would actually be major updates to Windows 10 as part of the new Windows as a Service approach that's supposed to bring updates to PCs and mobile devices at a faster pace.
Obviously, there is no confirmation on Redstone right now and don't expect any in the coming months because Microsoft still needs more time to advance with its work on the project. Insiders will obviously be among the first to get testing builds, but it's not yet clear when this is scheduled to happen.
