Newest Surface models now come with Windows 10

Windows 10 launched on July 29, and Microsoft was offering free upgrade services if you brought a Surface tablet in stores, but the company has now started selling the latest models with the new operating system pre-installed.

Basically, if you purchase a Surface 3 or a Surface Pro 3 today, chances are that Windows 10 will be running from the very beginning, so you won’t have to manually upgrade it once you set it up.

Both the Surface 3 and the Surface Pro 3 were launched with Windows 8.1, but thanks to the free upgrade offer, all tablets can now be upgraded to Windows 10 completely free of charge. But Microsoft is now selling all tablets with Windows 10 pre-installed, so you won’t have to upgrade when you buy a new model.

‘Why is this important?’ you might ask. Microsoft has a goal of bringing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017, so the company needs to upgrade every single device that’s eligible for the free offer as soon as possible to make sure that it reaches this important milestone.

Since its devices are also benefitting from the offer, shipping them with Windows 10 pre-installed helps the company make sure that users won’t miss the offer and the new operating system is running on the majority of Surface tablets.

Surface Pro 4 in the works

In the meantime, everyone’s wondering when Microsoft is planning to bring a new Surface model to the market. The upcoming Surface Pro 4 is believed to be in the works right now, but the company is keeping all details secret, so it’s hard to tell when exactly it could reach the market.

Some sources claimed that Microsoft plans to debut the Surface Pro 4 in October or November, but for the moment, nothing is certain.

The upcoming model will come with a display of at least 12 inches in size, a choice of several processors, up to 8 GB of RAM, and plenty of storage options that will mimic those available on the Surface Pro 4. Its premium feel will also impact the price, so expect the top model to cost around $2,000.
