14 DAY TRIAL // Back in April when Microsoft officially started the Windows 10 Creators Update rollout, the company also implemented new privacy controls together with a revised UI, giving users more options to configure how the operating system handles their data.
In essence a method to comply with requirements of privacy watchdogs across the world, Microsoft displayed this updated privacy screen when users installed the Creators Update, either as a direct update or with a fresh install.
The company today announced that the new privacy settings would also be displayed to absolutely all Windows 10 users as part of a new nagging screen that will show up in the coming weeks.
Basically, Windows 10 users will be asked to review their privacy settings, though the update to the Creators Update won’t actually be offered. Microsoft guarantees that despite the privacy screen, the new OS version won’t be forced on users.
The new nagging message will show up to 5 times, Microsoft says, and the company hasn’t mentioned what would happen next if users dismiss them every time.
Update nagging screens
In addition to the new privacy settings, Microsoft will also start nagging users of old Windows 10 versions to update their systems. The original version of Windows 10 which launched in July 2015 has already reached end of service, so Microsoft wants systems still running it to update to a newer release, such as the November Update, the Anniversary Update, or the Creators Update.
An update notification will be displayed on these systems, though once again the update won’t be forced on users, meaning that everyone is free to start the install when they are ready.
“While you can continue to use this version and your computer will still work, you will no longer receive the monthly quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To remain secure your device should be updated to the latest feature update. We will start sending a notification if your device needs to be updated to the latest feature update. If you have trouble, try these helpful tips,” Microsoft says.
In the meantime, the Windows 10 Creators Update rollout continues, and Microsoft says users will receive it when their systems are ready for it.
