Microsoft laid off thousands of people from the mobile unit following the acquisition of Nokia’s Devices and Services division, and now it looks like the company has started hiring engineers for the mobile group once again.

Twitter user @h0x0d has spotted two different job ads on Microsoft’s Career website, both of them aimed at potential candidates for the mobile unit.

First and foremost, Microsoft is looking for a Program Manager that will work on mobile projects aimed at enterprises, OEMs, and consumers.

Microsoft explains, “Our team is looking for a technical Program Manager to drive the design and delivery of core client platform features on Windows Mobile. You will be contributing to a wide range of Mobile platform features, from device management, updatability, security features and drivers to managing quality flights and customer communication. You will be part of a strong team that will execute on the high priority platform feature for Windows Mobile that will be used by our Enterprise partners, OEMs and consumers.”

Improving the user experience on mobile

Then, the company is also seeking a Senior Program Manager whose responsibilities will include improving the user experience on the mobile platform. Redmond says the following in the job ad:

“Windows Mobile team is looking for an experienced Senior Program Manager help drive the communication experiences to mobile devices, improve the user experience, meet enterprise and operator requirements. In this role, you will work with partners across the company including the hardware team to define the strategy, define the deliver the communication experience.”

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Microsoft is going all-in on Windows 10 Mobile, but at least it’s a sign that the company is still planning a series of improvements for its smartphone platform.

The upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update doesn’t bring too much in terms of new features for mobile devices, but expect a new share icon that’s super exciting for everyone, so the hope is now that the Redstone 3 update would be much more focused on smartphones.
