What happens if your app doesn't work on Windows 10?

Windows 10 will be here in just a few weeks, and people start wondering how the upgrade to the new OS is going to work in case some of the apps running on their computers don't work when installation comes to an end.

Windows boss Terry Myerson claims that the majority of apps on Windows 7 and 8.1 already work on Windows 10, but he admits that there might indeed be some issues when upgrading to the new operating system.

If this happens, you'll be provided with several options, which include continuing the Windows 10 upgrade and then getting in touch with the software developer to let them know about the problems you came across.

“In our testing of millions of systems, we’re seeing full compatibility today with the vast majority of Windows 8x and Windows 7x systems - and we are not yet done, we will never be done - we will be continuing this application and device compatibility work every day as part of our ongoing commitment to Windows as a service,” Myerson explains.

You might not get Windows 10 on July 29

If such compatibility issues exist on your computer, you might not get Windows 10 on July 29, Myerson goes on to say, especially because the company is trying to deliver the upgrade when your PC is ready to provide the best experience in the new operating system.

Windows 10 will be rolled out in waves to ensure that all computers are compatible, so depending on when the compatibility issues are fixed for your PC, you could the new OS sooner or later.

This does make sense, indeed, but some users are now afraid that they might have to wait too long for Windows 10 before it becomes available for their computers, but Microsoft says that, eventually, everyone will get it despite these compatibility issues. Users should be able to complete the upgrade even if problems exist.

The best way to get Windows 10 very fast is to join the Windows Insider program, as Myerson confirms that those running the preview builds will be the first to get it on July 29. That day everyone will be allowed to choose whether to continue getting pre-release versions of Windows 10 updates or opt out of the program.
