Microsoft has released a major update for SwiftKey on Android that includes real-time translation features for the keyboard.

In other words, your text can be translated as you type, using the engine powered by Microsoft Translator. This feature was originally rolled out in the beta build that the company shipped in early September, but with this release, it becomes available for everyone on Android.

“We’ve integrated Microsoft Translator into SwiftKey. This gives you a fast and seamless way to use translations features in the context of what you’re already doing. No more switching apps or copying and pasting back and forth,” Microsoft says in the changelog of this new version.

Additionally, this new version of SwiftKey brings support for a bunch of new languages, as the development team has always been particularly committed to making the keyboard app available in as many dialects as possible.

Updated language support

With this release, the app supports Adyghe, Nubian (Dongolawi), Dotyali, Gorontalo, Ingush, Kabiye, Mi'kmaq, Newar, Wakhi, Kalmyk & Nubian (Kenzi.

A bunch of existing languages has been updated as well, including here Arabic (Egypt), S'gaw Karen, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi & Wolof.

SwiftKey is without a doubt one of the most advanced keyboard apps not only on Android, but on iOS as well, bringing a super-accurate prediction and correction engine available in an impressive array of languages.

The rating that the app has on app stores is living proof for how advanced it is. On the Google Play Store, for instance, SwiftKey has more than 100 million installs, and this figure only concerns the installs that users made from the Store, without including direct downloads with APK files.

Additionally, it has a total rating of 4.5 out of a maximum of 5, with more than 2.8 million ratings currently on Android. Microsoft appears to be very keen on delivering more and more updates, so expect other new features to land next month.
