The Surface Book is Microsoft's newest big bet in the hardware industry, but also the very first real competitor to Apple's own MacBook, so everyone has very high hopes as far as sales of this device are concerned.

And so far, things are going great for the Surface Book, also called the ultimate laptop thanks to its hardware configuration, as pre-orders seem to be hinting at an exciting sales debut.

As Microsoft-News points out, the top Surface Book model is already out of stock, less than one week since the public unveiling in New York and two weeks before the company starts shipping it to customers.

If Microsoft's schedule is right, the Surface Book should arrive at your door on October 26, but small delays are always possible, especially with such demand for the new laptop.

What you get for $2,700

The top-of-the-range Surface Book model comes with 512 GB of storage space, Intel Core i7 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and NVIDIA graphics. The price of this configuration is $2,699.

Obviously, while the fact that this high-end model is already out of stock could point to quite an impressive early performance on the market, it's still a question of how many units have actually been produced, as it's a well-known fact that some manufacturers are usually super cautious and only build few units of their most expensive devices.

In this case, Microsoft hasn't provided any production figures, but even though the device is out of stock right now, expect it to become available once again in the coming weeks, as the company manages to keep up with demand.

An even higher-spec version of the Surface Book will also be launched soon with a 1TB SSD, but Microsoft hasn't said anything about timing or availability. Hopefully, this model will hit the shelves ahead of the holiday seasons when everyone's looking for new devices.
