Microsoft has recently released a new update for its Pix iOS camera app, adding support for what’s pretty much the most advanced feature in terms of iPhone cameras: the dual-lens system that the iPhone 7 Plus exclusively has at the moment.

Microsoft Pix 1.0.22 comes with some other improvements as well, including tweaks for the default levels of white balance to be slightly warmer in order to enhance the healthy glow of skin tones.

In other words, photos should now look a little bit more natural, but what Microsoft should do is offer more manual controls in order to give users the option to manually adjust white balance.

But the biggest change in this version is the addition of support for the dual-camera configuration available on the iPhone 7 Plus, with Microsoft explaining that the app can now “preserve the full detail captured by the telephoto lens.” If you want to read more about the performance of the dual-camera system launched by Apple, you can read our iPhone 7 Plus review here.

And there’s also a third improvement in this version that makes it possible to add decorative frames to any image. Microsoft says that both still and live images are supported.

What Pix can do for you

For those unfamiliar with Microsoft Pix, this is a camera app launched by Microsoft for iOS users and which is supposed to help take better pictures, as it automatically adjusts key settings for increased quality.

“Microsoft Pix has serious intelligence behind the lens, so it is a bit like having a pro photographer inside your camera - tweaking settings, selecting the best shots, and enhancing them on the fly - to help people and scenes look their best. It’s designed to help take the guesswork out of getting great photos, so now you can just enjoy the moment, instead of struggling to capture it! Microsoft Pix,” Microsoft explains.

The app works on any iPhone running iOS 9.0 or later and is obviously available with a free license from Apple’s App Store.
