New feature coming to personal assistant Cortana

Microsoft has just announced a new feature for its digital assistant Cortana that allows it to keep track of the promises you make in your emails and then to remind you of them at the right time.

Specifically, no matter if it’s a promise you make to a friend or a project that you swear you’re going to finish in record time, Cortana can automatically detect it using advanced machine learning systems and then remind you before it’s too late.

Microsoft says that the new feature is currently available on Windows 10 only in the United States, but it would be expanded to iOS and Android in the coming weeks. Only Outlook.com and Office 365 work and school email addresses are supported for the time being, but future updates should make it work on other email services, including Gmail as well.

Already available in Windows 10

Microsoft explains that there’s nothing special that you need to do to have Cortana remind you of things that you promise to do in your emails, and the personal assistant can even recognize the deadline that you mention in the text.

“Cortana does all the work in the background making this helpful feature incredibly easy to use. To get started, simply send emails as you would normally and when you’ll do something, Cortana will recognize that and save the details in a suggested reminder for you,” Microsoft says.

“If you’ve specified a deadline in the email, Cortana will ping you before it’s due and save it in the action center. Other suggested reminders will be in the Cortana home. No need to copy her on the email or change how you do things today, she will adapt to you.”

You can check out the video below to see the feature in action and you can also try it for yourself by sending yourself an email with the text “I will send you the report by Friday.”
