Surface Pro entering hibernation mode all of a sudden

Microsoft’s Surface Pro appears to be suffering from an issue that causes devices to enter hibernation mode all of a sudden, especially when going in idle mode.

Launched by Microsoft last month as the company’s new rival to Apple’s iPad Pro, the Surface Pro began shipping in mid-June to customers.

Most likely, the issues that some users are hitting can be fixed with a firmware update, but Microsoft is yet to acknowledge the problem, despite the growing number of complaints on Reddit and on the company’s Community Forums.

A full reset could fix the problem

Even though no official workaround is available just yet, one user whose Surface Pro was impacted by the problems claims to have gotten in touch with the software giant’s support engineers, who suggested a complete reset that apparently addressed the bug.

“I called Microsoft and they suggested that I do a complete factory rest. I was kind of disappointed that they didn’t have another fix to fix the problem. I did a factor reset to see if that fixed the problem. I did this 2 days ago and haven’t had the problem since. I didn’t have to touch the hibernation part at all. My computer hibernates only when I’m not touching my computer. I even watched a movie to see if it went into hibernation while watching the movie and it didn’t. So far so good!” one user explains.

This kind of problems aren’t something totally unexpected, especially on new-generation devices featuring upgraded hardware, but in all cases, it’s important for parent companies to address them as soon as possible to provide customers with the best possible experience.

Even though Microsoft hasn’t provided a workaround just yet, the company is certainly aware of the bug and a fix could be delivered in the coming weeks.

We’ve reached out to the company to ask for more information on the eagerly-anticipated fix and what exactly is causing the bug and we’ll update the article when an answer is offered.
