This build is exclusively aimed at PCs in the Fast ring

Microsoft has just rolled out a fresh build of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (codenamed Redstone 3), but this time only PCs in the Fast ring (not Skip Ahead) of the Windows Insider program are getting it.

And because the company is working to finalize the Creators Update and now giving the finishing touches to the new Windows 10 release, build 16278 is all about bug fixes and performance improvements, so no new features are included.

This is something that will continue until the release of the Fall Creators Update, with Microsoft to re-start shipping new features in Redstone 4.

“We are now at the point of the development cycle for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update where our focus is now on stabilization for release to the world. This means that we intend to release new builds to Insiders more quickly and that these builds will include mostly bug fixes.,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, explained in the release notes of build 16278.

Edge browser improvements

You can read the full change log in the box after the jump, and as highlights, we’re going to mention fixes for Microsoft Edge browser, but also for a bug that made it impossible for some PCs to upgrade to the latest builds if a speech for a secondary language was installed.

There are also improvements for the battery flyout and other desktop features, and also for precision touchpads which were said to be losing gestures after the PCs returned from sleep.

As for the final version of the Fall Creators Update, expect it to be ready sometime next month before everyone gets it shortly after that.

Users who are enrolled in the Skip Ahead channel should start getting RS4 preview builds anytime soon, though it’s important to note that no big changes would be included at first, as the company is still in the stage where it needs to pave the road for bigger changes coming later this year.
