Windows 10 Mobile is projected to launch sometime this month, and Microsoft is hard at work to prepare the release, but for the moment, no specifics are available on the date.

In the meantime, another sign that the debut of Windows 10 Mobile is imminent has been spotted on existing Lumia devices, as some have received firmware updates with no release notes.

Users have revealed on a reddit thread that devices such as the Lumia 930 and 1520 have gotten firmware updates in the last few days, and with no change log available, it appears that this new version is supposed to prepare the phones for the update to Windows 10 Mobile.

Windows 10 Mobile coming in stages

For the moment, not everyone with a Lumia 930 or 1520 is getting the new firmware update, which, according to reports, could be version 02540.00019.15235.40000, 02540.00019.15235.40008, or 02540.00019.15236.45006.

The Windows 10 Mobile rollout will take place in stages, and according to people familiar with Microsoft’s plans, both the Lumia 930 and the 1520 could be included in the first release taking place this month.

The second wave could happen in February 2016, but Microsoft is yet to confirm this release cycle, so take everything with a pinch of salt until more information on this arrives.

Both the Lumia 930 and 1520 are part of the company’s Windows Phone flagship lineup, so they will lack some premium features available in Windows 10 Mobile, such as Windows Hello and support for Continuum. And yet, both are supposed to run the new operating system very smoothly, especially thanks to their powerful hardware capabilities.

Lumia 1520, for instance, has a 6-inch screen, a Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.2 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel camera, and up to 32 GB of storage. The 930 features a 5-inch AMOLED display, the same processor and amount of RAM, camera, and storage.
