Compatibility issues might push back the release for you

Today Microsoft has published a blog post to detail the Windows 10 rollout, explaining that, on July 29, the free upgrade to the new operating system will begin in waves.

This means that, although Windows 10 will become available on July 29, not everyone will get it on the same day, and Microsoft says that Windows 7 and 8.1 computers with reserved upgrades will receive the notification to install the new operating system soon after that.

“Starting on July 29, we will start rolling out Windows 10 to our Windows Insiders. From there, we will start notifying reserved systems in waves, slowly scaling up after July 29th. Each day of the roll-out, we will listen, learn and update the experience for all Windows 10 users,” Windows boss Terry Myerson has explained today.

Another thing that's worth noting is that Microsoft will scan your computer for compatibility issues, and in case any is found, Windows 10's installation could be interrupted. You'll be notified of the compatibility problems and you'll be allowed to choose what to do next.

Redmond says that, despite these problems, you can still continue and complete the deployment of Windows 10, and in some cases, you'll even be provided with contact information to get in touch with the software developer or the manufacturer of the hardware that you're having problems with on the new operating system.

Windows insiders will get it on July 29

Windows Insiders will be the first to receive the upgrade to Windows 10, and on July 29, Windows 10 Home and Pro will both become available for consumers across the world.

On the other hand, volume licensing customers will be allowed to download Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education on Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) starting August 1, Myerson explains.

Microsoft also notes that OEMs and retailers will receive the final copy of Windows 10 in the coming weeks, which could be a sign that RTM is very close. Once this milestone is reached, we can all start counting the remaining days until July 29.
