Microsoft rolled out the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade for Windows Phone devices a few hours ago, but the company just couldn’t stay away from preview builds, so it also rolled out a new version for users participating in the Windows Insider program.

Windows 10 Mobile Redstone build 14291 introduces several new features, including a fresh Maps app that’s supposed to compensate for the removal of the super popular HERE Maps, but there’s actually more to discover in this release.

The official change log provided by Microsoft for build 14291 reveals several other improvements, but also a list of known issues, so insiders who are actually installing this one should really have a look at these.

For example, Windows 10 Mobile build 14291 fixes issues experienced with Wi-Fi networks using the WEP encryption, as it was previously reported that a number of users could not connect to such networks. Furthermore, the Windows development team managed to determine the source of a bug causing text input to get slower when more words were typed, so everything should be fine in this build.

Known issues in this build

First and foremost, it’s worth knowing that, if you install this build, reset the phone and then restore from a backup, apps that were previously backed up will no longer be installed and will appear with blank grey titles on Start.

“To avoid hitting this bug, avoid resetting your phone on this build. If for some reason you do need to reset your device on this build, don’t restore your phone from a backup and you should turn off backup for apps and OS data to avoid creating a corrupt backup via Settings > Update & Security > Backup,” Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has explained.

Furthermore, Band 1 and 2 paired to phones will no longer sync after the update, and changing the language is the only workaround. This bug existed in the previous build too.

The full list of changes, improvements, and known issues can be found below, and keep in mind that more could be discovered because build 14291 is still work in progress.
