The software giant moves Ignite to Atlanta

2015 was clearly a big year for Microsoft, as the software giant introduced its new Windows 10 operating system, as well as several new hardware devices, but 2016 will also be crucial as the company is hoping to continue the insane release frenzy with major updates and new products.

As you probably know if you’re a Microsoft customer, the company is holding several key events every year, all of which are supposed to help it get closer to partners, developers, or customers by showing them the updated product portfolio for the current year.

For 2016, the software giant has made some slight changes in its schedule and the most striking concerns Ignite. Previously held in Chicago, this conference will now take place in late September in Atlanta, which might actually be a huge blow for the Windy City. BUILD 2016 dates are not yet available, but it is due in spring 2016, so March or April are very likely.

The current schedule

Here is the current 2016 event schedule, as provided by Chris Capossela, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer:

Build Spring 2016 in San Francisco
Convergence April 4-7, 2016 in New Orleans
WPC July 10-14, 2016 in Toronto
Microsoft Ignite September 26-30, 2016 in Atlanta
Convergence EMEA Barcelona, November 30 – December 2.
Microsoft Cloud Roadshows -
“Each of these events provides our communities the opportunity to learn, engage and network with peers as we share our vision, reveal new technologies and dive deep in smaller group sessions. Over the years of running these events, we’ve continued to listen to your feedback and use it to refine our approach. To that end, we have made the decision to shift Microsoft Ignite from spring to fall,” he said.

Of course, in addition to all these events, Microsoft will also hold new product unveiling conferences that will be invite-based and limited to the press, but their dates are not yet available. Expect major product refreshes such as new Surface tablets, laptops, and wearables, as well as the first major update for Windows 10, so more exciting events are definitely planned for 2016.
