Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 Fall Creator Update (version 1709), and this time the changelog in kind of huge.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4089848 bumps the OS build number to 16299.334 and comes with OS improvements and general fixes – the previous cumulative update landed on Patch Tuesday, and obviously, it was mostly focused on addressing security vulnerabilities.

With this update, Microsoft spends more time fixing non-security bugs, and one such example is one issue where Bluetooth devices fail to receive data after a restart.

While you can check out the entire changelog in the box after the jump, there are a few improvements that are worth highlighting here.

For example, there’s a fix for a Start menu bug that caused tiles to be reset when upgrading to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. This is an issue that so many users reported in the last few months, so it’s good to see that Microsoft finally fixes it with this cumulative update.

Just one known issue

Additionally, there are fixes for the spell check feature with custom dictionaries, as well as Microsoft Edge refinements for PDF document support. There are also improvements for media playback in Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

There’s just a known issue in this update, and it’s inherited from the previous releases. Microsoft says that Windows Update History could report the update as failed to install, but in fact, KB4089848 installed correctly. To check if this is the case, type winver in the Start menu and see if your OS build number is the same as the one mentioned above.

It remains to be seen if KB4089848 experiences any issues or failed installs, as this month’s Patch Tuesday has proved to be quite a fiasco in terms of botched updates. We’ll keep an eye out for bug reports regarding KB4089848 and let you know should any issues be experienced.
