Microsoft has recently rolled out another update for Windows 10 that brings stability improvements, so everyone’s recommended to install it as soon as possible on their devices.

KB3140741 is a servicing stack update for Windows 10 version 1511 and includes, just like its name clearly states, improvements for the servicing stack, so no new major changes should be spotted after installing it.

Just like all the other updates released by Microsoft, it can be installed automatically via Settings > Update & Security, and a system reboot is not required.

Microsoft has provided quite a small change log, with no specifics on what exactly these improvements are tweaking on Windows 10 computers installing the update.

“This update makes stability improvements for Windows 10 Version 1511 servicing stack. If you are installing a servicing stack update package for the first time, the package for the x86 version is 5 MB and the package for the x64 version is 11 MB,” it says.

No new cumulative update just yet

Although many users expected this to be a cumulative update for Windows 10, it’s actually just a regular patch that needs to be installed on version 1511.

Cumulative updates are particularly important for Windows 10 users because they include all the previously-released fixes, so installing the latest one brings a computer completely up to date. And yet, it’s no secret that cumulative updates have also caused trouble on systems trying to install it, as some users reported issues not only during the install process but also after that, with certain features of the OS said to be impacted by unknown bugs.

In the meantime, everyone is recommended to install this new servicing stack update, and IT administrators can do this as well because no system reboot is required. If you want to install the update manually, open the Microsoft Update Catalog in Internet Explorer to get the download links.
