Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 build for Fast ring insiders, as the company gets closer to kicking off the stabilization process of the Redstone 5 update.

Windows 10 build 17723 comes with the same changes as Windows 10 Redstone 6 build 18204, also released today for the Skip Ahead ring, but Microsoft says that in the future, builds would be published separately.

“RS5 builds will come from the RS5_RELEASE branch. For Insiders who chose to “skip ahead”, 19H1 builds will continue to come from the RS_PRERELEASE branch. Insiders can see the branch name in the watermark at the lower right of their desktop. Right now, the builds from these branches are largely the same which is why we’re only doing a single blog post for both of today’s new builds. However, in the future we will be doing separate blog posts for each,” Dona Sarkar, chief of the Windows Insider program, said in a post today.

Microsoft Edge improvements

While you can see all the changes by clicking the Redstone 6 article linked above, worth highlighting is the pack of improvements for Microsoft Edge.

The default Windows 10 browser has evolved substantially lately, and this new build includes new Group Policies and MDM settings that give IT pros more control over Edge. This means they can allow or block access to certain features easily, like preventing certificate error overrides and enabling or disabling the full-screen mode.

Furthermore, the new policies make it possible to set a New Tab page and Home button URL, while also providing better management of extensions, without letting standard accounts to make any changes.

Windows 10 Redstone 5 is projected to launch in the fall. As per Microsoft’s typical schedule, the update should be finalized in September, while the public rollout is supposed to kick off in October.
