Microsoft has released Windows 10 Redstone 5 build 17639 for insiders in the Skip Ahead ring, and the focus this time is on refining the experience with Sets.

The company first decided to test-drive Sets, which brings tabs across the operating system, during the development of Redstone 4, but the feature was then pushed back until the first builds of the Redstone 5 update rolled out to the Skip Ahead ring.

Build 17639 thus brings some substantial improvements, including drag and drop support that allows you to drag an app tab around or combine multiple app windows into Sets. In other words, you get functionality similar to the one in third-party browsers like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, but the best thing is that this works right in Windows 10.

Additionally, tabs are now integrated in the Alt + Tab menu, so when invoking the app switcher, you get to see not only the main app, but also each tab running in it.

Bluetooth and Calculator improvements

There are new Settings for Sets, including a dedicated section under Settings > System > Multitasking, as well as improvements for File Explorer, which Microsoft says should support grouping in the coming builds.

And last but not least, there are new options in the File menu of File Explorer and in the Context Menu to open a certain folder in a new tab, and Microsoft says these are all based on user feedback.

Microsoft reveals it’s working on more refinements for Sets, including support for Win32 apps like Office, and this feature will first become available to users in the Office Insider program.

In addition to the Sets makeover, Windows 10 build 17639 also displays the Bluetooth battery percentage is the Settings app, while also bringing some Calculator improvements fixing year-old bugs.

There are obviously several other general changes and improvements, as well as three different known issues, and you can check out all of them in the box after the jump.
