New build coming with lots of improvements for PCs

Even though Microsoft is now conducting the final Bug Bash ahead of the public launch of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the company doesn’t want to abandon shipping new features, so the just-released build 16251 brings lots of improvements in this regard.

Specifically aimed at users in the Fast ring and at insiders who opted for the Skip Ahead feature, build 16251 introduces the very first features that let users link phones to PCs.

For the time being, this feature only makes it possible to benefit from cross-device web-browsing for Android users, which is another way of saying synchronization between phones and PCs. Microsoft says that iPhone support will be added in a future build.

Linking phones to a PC can be done from Settings > Phone and it involves receiving an SMS that prompts you to download a test application called “Microsoft Apps” for Android that makes it possible to establish the connection between the two devices.

Once the connection is complete, simply click the Share button on your Android device and hit the option that says “Continue on PC” to open the same browsing session on your Windows 10 computer.

New Cortana commands

Additionally, this build introduces an option to get web search results in Cortana without opening your browser, so when you search for movies, celebrities, stock prices, weather, or flight status, content that’s retrieved from the web is displayed in your taskbar.

Cortana also supports new options to control your PC, with commands like restart, turn off, sign out, and lock PC now available.

This build also introduces a number of boot experience refinements, including settings to automatically use your sign-in info to complete setting up the device after a reboot triggered by an update.

“When you log in and initiate a reboot or a shutdown through power options available on the Start Menu and various other locations, Windows will automatically setup your account after it has booted back up,” Microsoft says.

There also plenty of other improvements, as well as several known bugs, and you can check them out in the box after the jump.
