14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released Windows 10 Redstone 3 build 16179 for insiders in the Fast ring, thus introducing the company’s new battery saving feature codenamed power throttling.
Exclusively available for PCs, Windows 10 build 16179 comes with two different new features, one of which is the one that’s supposed to boost battery life by up to 11 percent.
What Power Throttling does is optimize tasks running the process to become more power-efficient, and Microsoft says that, in some cases, it can lead to up to 11 percent savings in CPU power consumption.
The feature was first introduced before the release of Windows 10 Creators Update, but for some reason it didn’t make the cut, so Microsoft is restarting work with the goal of shipping it to users with the upcoming Windows 10 Redstone 3 due in the fall.
“To give great performance to the apps you’re using, while at the same time power throttling background work, we built a sophisticated detection system into Windows. The OS identifies work that is important to you (apps in the foreground, apps playing music, as well as other categories of important work we infer from the demands of running apps and the apps the user interacts with),” Microsoft explains.
Bug fixes and known issues also included
The second new feature in this build concerns reverting VM settings, so Windows 10 build 16179 automatically creates checkpoints that allow users to revert to the last time they started a virtual machine to make sure they diagnose any potential error.
Obviously, there are many other improvements and bug fixes and you can check them out in the full release notes below. This build also comes with several known issues, and they’re also included in the change log.
As far as the rest of the insiders are concerned, Windows 10 build 15205 is also taking off for mobile users, but this time there are no breaking changes. The full focus still appears to be on PCs with the Windows 10 Redstone 3 update.
