14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 Redstone 2 build that’s available for fast ring insiders on PCs and mobile devices, bringing several new features and improvements over its predecessors.
First and foremost, Windows 10 build 14946 comes with options to customize the precision touchpad experience on PCs, allowing you to control exactly how you want to use the touchpad, should any be available.
For example, when going to Settings > Devices > Touchpad, you now have a new menu called “Other gestures” that allows you to customize tasks for the basic gestures with three or four finger gestures. You can choose between options such as launching Cortana, the action center, switching apps and others.
There’s also an advanced gesture configuration screen that provides even more options, so it’s very clear that Microsoft is working hard to refine the experience on laptops.
Improved Wi-Fi settings page
Microsoft has also updated the Wi-Fi settings page with new options that allow you to automatically turn wireless connectivity on after a certain time. The new configuration screen is available in Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi and is available on both PC and mobile devices.
With this new build, Microsoft is also expanding text prediction to more languages, including the following: Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Slovene (also called Slovenian), Bulgarian, Albanian, Macedonian, Afrikaans, Galician, Basque, Swahili, Bangla in Bangladesh, Georgian, Azerbaijani (also called Azeri) (in Latin script), Kazakh, Armenian, Hausa (in Latin script) and Uzbek (in Latin script).
There are also several improvements on mobile devices, including separate screen timeout settings when using Continuum for Phone, as well as options to prevent autocorrection, so Microsoft has finally started focusing a little bit on mobile devices too.
