It’s Patch Tuesday, it’s time for cumulative updates

Microsoft has just released a new set of cumulative updates as part of this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle bringing security fixes for its software.

This month, the updates are KB4093112 (1709), KB4093107 (1703), KB4093119 (1607), KB4093109 (1511), and KB4093111 (RTM), and in addition to security fixes, they also come with a handful of operating system improvements and bug fixes that improve the experience with the Windows 10 version they are aimed at.

These cumulative updates are available right now via Windows Update, but they can also be downloaded manually from Microsoft’s Update Catalog. A reboot is required when completing the install, and users and IT admins alike should have this in mind when beginning deployment.

Installing today’s cumulative updates bring your system completely up-to-date, as these patches include all the previously released fixes. For IT admins whose computers are already updated and running the most recent Windows 10 cumulative updates, Microsoft is also releasing delta updates that include only the changes implemented since the previous release.

Failed installs anyone?

Needless to say, delta updates are lighter, so they take less time to download and install, helping avoid any potential issues that typically impact cumulative updates.

And speaking of issues with cumulative updates, these are one main concern for many Windows 10 users, as many of those released in the previous months caused a wide variety of problems, from failed installs to ghost networks and BSODs.

For the time being, we’re not aware of any issues with this month’s cumulative updates, but we’ll be keeping an eye on reports and let you know should such complaints arise. Also, don’t forget that it could take longer for a cumulative update released on Patch Tuesday to install since so many changes are included, and even if it might seem like it’s getting stuck, give it more time and it could eventually complete.
