It’s Patch Tuesday, it’s time for new cumulative updates

Microsoft has just shipped a new set of cumulative updates for supported Windows 10 versions, as per the company’s typical approach each Patch Tuesday.

This time, the cumulative updates are the following: KB4054517 (1709) KB4053580 (1703), KB4053579 (1607), KB4053578 (1511), and KB4053581 (RTM).

Each of the mentioned cumulative updates will also come with delta updates, allowing users to install only the changes made from the previous update. This means that computers need to be fully up-to-date before this Patch Tuesday in order to install delta updates.

Cumulative updates include all the previously released improvements and fixes, and this is the reason they are growing in size substantially with every rollout. This makes deployment a process that needs more time in the case of systems that haven’t been updated in a long time, but for everyone else, delta updates should come in very handy.

As it’s the case with every cumulative update launched on Patch Tuesday, the focus this time is on security fixes, though some performance improvements and OS refinements are also included.

Focus on security fixes

There are security patches for the Windows kernel, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, and other Windows components that could be vulnerable to attacks due to found glitches.

Cumulative updates have previously caused some issues when installing them, and there are concerns that every new rollout could lead to similar problems, though Microsoft has substantially reduced the number of errors that users experienced lately, especially since the debut of the Fall Creators Update.

Updates installed correctly on our systems running the Creators Update and Fall Creators Update here at Softpedia, though it’s worth mentioning that all computers were already fully up-to-date before this release.

We’ll keep an eye out on reports to find out if there are indeed issues with these updates and will post an update to this article to let you know. In the meantime, you should install the cumulative updates as soon as possible, as they include critical security fixes for Windows 10.
