New cumulative updates published on Patch Tuesday

It’s Patch Tuesday, so Microsoft is releasing new cumulative updates for Windows 10 systems to address security vulnerabilities in the operating system.

The new cumulative updates are KB4025342 (1703), KB4025339 (1607), KB4025344 (1511), and KB4025338 (RTM) and include security fixes exclusively, as they are shipped as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle taking place on the second Tuesday of each month.

Installing these cumulative updates is critical for Windows 10 users given the fact that they address security flaws, and everyone is recommended to deploy them as soon as possible. Manual download links will also be available later today on the company’s Update Catalog for systems that turned off auto-updating via Windows Update.

As it happens with every new cumulative update, there are concerns that these patches could fail to install, though we’ve just completed patching on several systems here at Softpedia and everything appears to be working just fine.

Installing fine here

Since the release of the Creators Update in April this year, cumulative updates have installed correctly in most of the cases and the number of complaints pointing to failed installs has declined substantially.

We’re obviously keeping an eye out on reports pointing to issues experienced with KB4025342 (1703), KB4025339 (1607), KB4025344 (1511), and KB4025338 (RTM and we’ll update the article should such problems be discovered.

For users with metered connections or limited bandwidth, Microsoft will also publish delta updates, which include only the changes made from the previous cumulative updates. Of course, this involves having a system that’s fully up-to-date, but if this is your case, then a smaller update needs to be downloaded.

Cumulative updates include all the previously released fixes, and installing the latest one always brings a system up-to-date. This is the reason updates are growing in size with every release, so delta updates certainly come in handy to more and more users.

You can let us know in the comment box below if you’re hitting any issues with today’s cumulative updates, and we’ll post more information when it becomes available.
