14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released new cumulative updates for Windows 10 as part of its Patch Tuesday cycle bringing us security fixes for its own software.
The new Windows 10 cumulative updates are KB4013429, KB4013198, and KB4012606, and since they land on Patch Tuesday, they are mostly supposed to fix vulnerabilities in the operating system. Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, and other Windows 10 apps are thus being patched.
What’s important to know is that just like all the other cumulative updates released by Microsoft, there are no new features in here, but only fixes and improvements.
In addition to the aforementioned security patches for Windows 10, there are also small bug fixes addressing problems reported by users and discovered by the Microsoft team, but in most of the cases, they are under-the-hood improvements that you can barely notice.
Failed installs? Let’s hope not
As it happened with other cumulative updates, there are concerns that KB4013429, KB4013198, and KB4012606 could fail to install correctly, which is quite an issue given the fact that these patches include critical security fixes.
In the past, cumulative updates failed to install from the very beginning, while others caused additional problems post installation, such as network issues or other performance bugs that some users could only address by completely removing the update.
In the case of KB4013429, KB4013198, and KB4012606, there are still no reports of failed installs, but of course, it’s still too early to tell, as the first systems are only now getting the updates. We’ll be keeping an eye out on reports and let you know should any installation issues be reported.
Just like every month, users are strongly recommended to download and install these cumulative updates (if possible, of course) because they bring computers fully up to date, while also addressing vulnerabilities in Microsoft software that could create additional risks.
Cumulative updates are shipped via Windows Update and they do require a system reboot, so make sure you save your work before anything else.
