This update is aimed at systems running version 1703

Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703), but this time the focus is on non-security fixes for the operating system.

The previous update for this particular OS version was KB4074592 and it landed on Patch Tuesday, obviously with the changelog including several security fixes aimed at vulnerabilities in the operating system or the core apps.

With Windows 10 cumulative update KB4077528, however, Microsoft ships only quality improvements to refine the performance of the OS and address known bugs and issues.

The changelog, which you can read in full in the box after the jump, brings more refinements for the Start menu. The unresponsive Start menu has long been one of the most frustrating bugs in Windows 10, and with this new cumulative update, Microsoft gives another try to fixing it.

As a result, KB4077528 addresses an issue where Internet Explorer stops responding and causing the desktop to show up with a delay, in its turn eventually making the Start menu unresponsive and causing some system tray icons to disappear.

Just one known issue

There are also fixes for Microsoft Outlook, which sometimes fails to authenticate when using conditional access, but also for Device Guard rules that were blamed for bugs causing the system to stop working.

There’s just an old known issue in this cumulative update, as Microsoft says that systems running antivirus software not compatible with the latest version of Windows 10 might no longer receive updates.

All the changes that are included in Windows 10 cumulative update KB4077528 will be part of the next Patch Tuesday release as well, which will include new updates for the Creators Update that would also contain security fixes. The next Patch Tuesday, however, takes place on March 13, and system admins can prepare for the deployment by testing out this cumulative update on their systems.

We’re not aware of any installation issues or bugs caused by cumulative update KB4077528, but we’ll be keeping an eye out on reports and update the article should more info be posted.
