New cumulative update available for Creators Update PCs

Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for systems running the Windows 10 Creators Update, and even though it doesn’t land on Patch Tuesday, it’s a pretty important one.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4055254 comes to address an issue introduced by its predecessor and breaking down Epson Dot Matrix printers. Microsoft explains in the official release notes that this update “addresses issue that affected some Epson SIDM (Dot Matrix) and TM (POS) printers, which were failing to print on x86-based and x64-based systems. This issue affects KB4048954.”

The new update is not available for any other Windows 10 version and Microsoft hasn’t included any other fixes, so it’s pretty clear that the company didn’t want to waste any time and bring this fix out as soon as possible.

In the past, the software giant used to wait until the next Patch Tuesday to fix issues in the operating system, but cumulative updates are now being used to address bugs at a much faster pace, obviously assuming that these updates install correctly in the first place.

Just one known issue

Ever since Microsoft has started rolling out cumulative updates, users have been complaining of various problems, including failed installs and several errors experienced post-installation. The number of reports in this regard, however, has been reduced dramatically since the release of the Creators Update and appears to be even smaller now on the Fall Creators Update.

For cumulative update KB4055254, Microsoft says it’s aware of just one issue, explaining that Internet Explorer users with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) might not be able to scroll through a drop-down menu using a scroll bar.

“Using the scroll wheel on a mouse works as expected. This issue only applies to document mode 11, so attempting to load the page with document mode 10 may work around the issue,” the firm says.

A fix is also in the works right now, and the company says more information will be provided in an upcoming release.
