Microsoft has rolled out another cumulative update for Windows 10 devices, this time specifically aimed at those running the Anniversary Update.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4041688 bumps version number to 14393.1794, and it includes a long list of improvements, as well as some known issues that everyone should have a look at before installing the patch.

First and foremost, it’s important to note that the focus is on bug fixes, with no new features or security patches, as the latter are typically released on Patch Tuesday. On the other hand, given that cumulative update KB4041688 refines performance of the operating system, it’s still the kind of release that users are recommended to install – of course, in case no major issues are being reported.

For example, Microsoft uses this patch to fix issues introduced by another cumulative update aimed at the Anniversary Update, including “issues where downloading updates using express installation files may fail after installing OS Updates 14393.1670 through 14393.1770.”

Known issues

There are also fixes for bugs preventing Windows Error Reporting from saving error reports in a temporary folder, as well as for a problem causing the language bar to remain open after closing a RemoteApp application.

You can check out the full changelog before and head over to Softpedia to download the update manually.

There are three known issues in this update, the first of which causes applications based on the Microsoft JET Database Engine (Microsoft Access 2007 and older or non-Microsoft applications) to fail when creating or opening Microsoft Excel .xls files. The workaround can be found in the box after the jump

Microsoft says that due to this update, some users who have the text size for icons configured to a larger size might not be able to launch Internet Explorer, and the only way to deal with this is to reduce the test size for icons to a smaller size. A fix should be coming in a future update, the firm promises.
