Microsoft has rolled out a new Windows 10 cumulative update for systems running the Anniversary Update to introduce a fix for an issue discovered in a previous update.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB3213522 is now available via Windows Update for those running Windows 10 version 1607, and according to the official KB page, it addresses a bug that was found in cumulative update KB3206632, which was rolled out by Microsoft on Patch Tuesday (December 13).

“This update fixes an issue that was introduced in the December 13, 2016 release (KB3206632) in which virtualization-based security (VBS) does not start, and features that rely on VBS, such as Credential Guard and shielded virtual machines (VMs), stop functioning. Windows 10 and Windows Server 2106 updates are cumulative. Therefore, this package contains all previously released fixes,” Microsoft explains.

This new update pushes Windows 10 version to 14393.577, but Microsoft hasn’t mentioned any other fixes or improvements that it could bring.

For the moment, there are no reported failed installs and everything seems to go smoothly on the majority of Windows 10 computers. KB3213522 also installed correctly on our computers here at Softpedia.

Cumulative update for insiders

Earlier this week, Microsoft also rolled out a new cumulative update for insiders, as it prepares a new release for those running the stable version of Windows 10, but it wants to test everything before making it public.

KB3206309 comes with no documentation, but insiders in the Fast ring are getting it right now, and it most likely includes bug fixes and performance improvements just like any other cumulative update.

As usual, everyone getting these cumulative updates is recommended to install them as soon as possible, no matter if they come with documentation or not, because they typically include fixes and tweaks that improve general performance of the OS.

We’ll also keep an eye on any complaints regarding failed installs and will update the article should anything like that be reported.
