Insiders get a new cumulative update in RP ring

Microsoft has just rolled out a new Windows 10 cumulative update, but this time it’s exclusively aimed at insiders enrolled in the Release Preview ring, so those who aren’t part of the Windows Insider program aren’t going to get it.

For the moment, there are no release notes for Windows 10 cumulative update KB3209835 (no KB page just yet, though), but on the other hand, it’s not expected to be too different in terms of purpose as compared to its predecessors.

This means that KB3209835 is very unlikely to bring any new features, so most likely it’s supposed to fix bugs and improve performance of certain Windows 10 apps and features.

Given the fact that it’s specifically aimed at the Release Preview ring, which is the last ring of the Windows Insider program getting only the most stable and reliable updates, KB3209835 could very well be pushed to stable users in the coming days, depending on the feedback Microsoft receives from testers.

Coming next Patch Tuesday?

The first Patch Tuesday cycle of the year takes place next week, so there’s a good chance to see KB3209835 rolling out to all users very soon.

As usual, there’s no doubt that many users are interested in finding out if KB3209835 install fine or it’s affected by the very same super-frustrating installation issues that impacted many of its predecessors. That’s actually what Microsoft is trying to determine by releasing this cumulative update to insiders first, so hopefully everything will go well both for testers and stable users.

For the moment, it looks like KB3209835 installed fine on two of our testing machines here at Softpedia enrolled in the Release Preview ring, but again, many of the cumulative updates rolled out in the past and causing issues for some also installed correctly.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for reports on anything related to KB3209835 and will let you know should we come across any failed installs that might impact your system too.
