Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 cumulative update, this time exclusively to machines running version 1607 (Anniversary Update).

Windows 10 cumulative update KB3197954 has been in the testing stage for a while, and we’ve told you before that Microsoft released it to insiders in order to determine any potential issues that it might cause, but it turns out that everything went smoothly, so it’s now available for public users too.

According to the official changelog, which you can read in full at the end of the article, KB3197954 does not bring anything new besides fixes and improvements, and this shouldn’t be a surprise at all. Cumulative updates aren’t supposed to introduce new features, but to refine performance, and KB3197954 makes no exception.

Bump to version 14393.351

In this case, KB3197954 comes with improved reliability for Internet Explorer, Start, File Explorer, Action Center, and the Windows kernel, while also addressing an issue that was causing domain logon attempts to fail on a Windows 10 Pro computer where users upgraded from Windows 10 Home.

Additionally, this update also includes improved support for IT administrators using Group Policy to block users updating the operating system from Windows Update, as well as fixes for issues in several important apps, including IE11 and Microsoft Edge. Features such as USB, Wi-Fi, PowerShell, graphics, Bluetooth, and Microsoft Component Object Model are also being improved.

One essential change that users should have in mind when installing this cumulative update is that it pushes Windows 10 version to 14393.351, just like it was the case with KB3197954 when it was released to insiders.

The next cumulative updates will land on November 8 when Microsoft kicks off a new Patch Tuesday cycle, so hopefully, this one installs fine and doesn’t cause any issues on the Windows 10 computers it’s addressed to. We’ll be keeping an eye out on reports to see if any installation problems occur and will let you know about them should they happen.
