Yet another update shipped to Anniversary Update devices

Microsoft really has a hard time fixing broken cumulative updates, but this doesn’t mean the company stops rolling out new ones, and this is what is happening today when a new patch showed up on devices running Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607).

Windows 10 cumulative update KB3197356 is now available for download, and according to the official KB page, it’s here to fix an issue with Microsoft Edge. While it’s a little bit surprising to see Microsoft rolling out a cumulative update to fix an issue only a few days before Patch Tuesday, users are recommended to install it anyway as soon as possible.

“This cumulative update resolves an issue in which some sites do not load in Microsoft Edge after KB3194496 is installed. This issue occurs when a user is on a page that specifies a character encoding hint that isn't present on the computer, and the user browses from that page to a location that uses HTTP redirection,” Microsoft explains.

Everything running smoothly at first glance

After so many reports of broken cumulative updates, users no longer rush to install new releases, choosing instead to wait and find out whether others are experiencing issues or not. And they can’t be blamed for anything because past cumulative updates caused several problems on a number of PCs, but this time, everything seems to be running fine.

We’ve already installed the update on several PCs here at Softpedia, and everything worked like a charm, but again, we rarely experienced any issues with cumulative updates. So it’s still a matter of luck for the majority of users out there.

For the moment, we’re not aware of any failed installs for this new cumulative update, but we’re keeping an eye out on reports and will post an update should something go wrong. Hopefully, this won’t be the case because we really need a cumulative update that installs just fine for everyone.

UPDATE: It appears that not all users can see this CU in Windows Update, but you can manually download it using these links from Microsoft servers (x64 and x86).
