Microsoft launched Windows 10 cumulative update KB3189866 on September 13, but shortly after it went live, users started reporting installation issues that had the patch getting stuck at 45 or 95 percent during installation.

The number of complaints was quite big, and this was living proof that it was just another widespread bug that the company had to deal with as soon as possible. Without any word from Microsoft, users started searching for workarounds online and, as we told you, manually installing KB3189866 was the only way to get it work.

One week later, Microsoft finally acknowledged the problems experienced by users with KB3189866 and issued a new cumulative update to replace it.

KB3193494 now pushed via Windows Update

KB3193494 is now available for download for Windows 10 Anniversary Update computers, and it comes with the same fixes as KB3189866, but the difference is that it’s supposed to install fine and work correctly on all computers.

“We encountered a network transmission issue that affected update 3189866, published on September 13, 2016. The quickest way to address this issue was to reissue the update to all Content Delivery Networks. This new update package, KB3193494, includes the same set of fixes as KB3189866. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” Microsoft explains.

If KB3189866 installed fine on your PC, you might not see the new cumulative update in Windows Update, and since KB3193494 includes the same fixes as the one it replaces, this perfectly makes sense.

On the other hand, if you were unable to install the original cumulative update on your PC, KB3193494 is the one you should be looking for and, once installed, everything should be working correctly, and the computer is brought up to date.

The full changelog of this new cumulative update is available below, and we’ll keep you up to date with any installation issues or problems caused by KB3193494. Hopefully, there won’t be any.

UPDATE: It turns out that some users are experiencing issues with this cumulative update as well, but for the moment, it's not yet known if it's a widespread problem or not.
