14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 that pushes the version number to 10586.36, the same as on Windows 10 Mobile.
This is part of the company's efforts to keep the mobile and PC releases in sync so that users will have the same version number of Windows 10 no matter the device.
If you're one of the early adopters of Windows 10, you probably know that Microsoft doesn't usually provide release notes for cumulative updates, and today's KB3124200 makes no exception to this rule. The company does mention that it brings improvements to the operating system, but aside from that, no other details are available.
Only for Windows 10 November Update PCs
It's also important to note that this new cumulative update is only aimed at PCs running Windows 10 Mobile November Update, so unless your PC is completely up to date, you won't see KB3124200 in Windows Update.
“This update offers improved functionality for Windows 10 Version 1511. Windows 10 Version 1511 updates are cumulative. Therefore, this package contains all previously-released fixes (see 3116900). If you have installed previous updates, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed to your computer,” Microsoft explains on the KB page.
Cumulative updates are part of Microsoft's new approach revolving around Windows as a Service and are released to users at a very fast pace, thus bringing improvements on devices already running the new OS.
The only problem with these updates, however, is the fact that Microsoft remains completely tight-lipped on the changes that they bring, so users need to discover the said improvements on their own. Obviously, this doesn't really come in handy to anyone right now, and users call for Microsoft to change this approach for future updates, but the company doesn't seem to be willing to go into reverse anytime soon. At least not for consumers.
