Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for Windows 10, but as per the company’s new strategy, only very little is known about it.

Let’s start with what we do know.

First and foremost, the update is called KB3116908 and is aimed at computers running Windows 10 November Update, so if you have already upgraded your computer to the latest version released on November 15, this new release should show up in Windows Update for you, too.

Then, KB3116908 is said to contain bug fixes and performance improvements, but this is pretty much the typical change log that Microsoft provides for every Windows 10 cumulative update.

Only available for November Update users

Quote from the KB page of this new update:

“This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10 Version 1511. Windows 10 Version 1511 updates are cumulative. Therefore, this package contains all previously-released fixes. If you have installed previous updates, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed to your computer.”

What we don’t know is exactly what this new update improves because this is actually what users of Windows 10 are interested in in the first place, but Microsoft doesn’t seem to be willing to provide too many details regarding cumulative updates.

Microsoft promised to offer such information to enterprises, but given the absolutely huge amount of feedback coming from consumers as well, the company might very well change this decision and make release information available for everyone sometime in the near future.

In the meantime, users are strongly recommended to get this update running on their PCs as soon as possible because, as usual, it does come with important improvements and bug fixes. And the moment we find out more about what is actually included, we’ll get back to you, so check back for updates should more information be provided by Microsoft.

Thanks for the tip, Steve Truman!
