14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just rolled out another cumulative update for Windows 10 that includes “improvements to enhance the functionality” of the operating system.
Labeled as KB3093266, the new cumulative update is now being delivered to Windows 10 PCs across the world running build 10240, and surprisingly, it doesn't seem to be available for those powered by preview builds, such as 10547.
Just like before, the company does not provide any information on what is included in this update, which again causes frustration among Windows 10 users who want full details on these cumulative releases.
The only thing that Microsoft says in the description of the update is the following:
“This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10.”
“Windows 10 updates are cumulative. Therefore, this package contains all previously-released fixes (see KB 3081448). If you have installed previous updates, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed to your computer.”
All Windows 10 updates will be cumulative
Microsoft has announced in Windows 10 documentation published on TechNet that all Windows 10 releases will be cumulative from now on, which means that, once you install the latest one, you are fully up to date.
Obviously, this means that every update will also grow in size, so in case you haven't installed the ones before, you might end up having to download gigabytes of data to get patched.
Microsoft explains how cumulative updates will work:
“New feature upgrades and servicing updates will contain the payloads of all previous releases (in an optimized form to reduce storage and networking requirements), and installing the release on a device will bring it completely up to date.”
Today's update makes no exception to this rule, so if you install it, your computer will be fully patched and secure.
As for the changes that it brings, it's hard to notice any difference right now, but we'll keep an eye out for such information today and will keep you posted as soon as we have something new to share.
