New update available only for Release Preview and Slow rings

Microsoft has recently released a new Windows 10 cumulative update for mobile devices enrolled in the Windows Insider program, most likely in order to test a new series of fixes before everyone else gets them.

This new cumulative update pushes Windows 10 Mobile version to 14393.221, leaving the PC version of Windows 10 behind, as it’s still at 14393.187.

And yet, Microsoft is showing increased focus on Windows 10 Mobile these days, as the company shipped not one, not two, but three different cumulative updates to mobile insiders in less than two weeks.

First and foremost, the company shipped Windows 10 Mobile build 14393.187 to insiders earlier this month, and shortly after that, it decided to push build .189 to devices in order to provide more fixes and correct some of the bugs discovered at the last minute.

No changelog just yet

Today, a new build is shipped to the Release Preview and Slow rings, which could be a hint that we’re nearing the release of a cumulative update for retail users too - what’s important to note, however, is that CUs are typically released on Patch Tuesday, and since we’re far from the October patch cycle, we still have to wait a couple of weeks more.

There’s no changelog for today’s cumulative update and it’s hard to tell what exactly it is supposed to do, but given the fact that these updates don’t usually bring new features, the focus is most likely on fixing bugs and improving performance.

And it goes without saying that updates for mobile devices certainly come in handy, especially because Microsoft has often been accused of neglecting the platform and focusing too much on PCs and even on rival mobile operating systems such as Android and iOS.

For the time being, however, improvements for Windows 10 Mobile keep coming as part of the Insider program, and some of them should become available for everyone very soon.
