Slow ring users getting new cumulative update

Microsoft has recently rolled out a cumulative update for users enrolled in the slow ring of the Windows Insider program, which bumps the version number to 14295.1004.

It’s important to note that while fast ring users are already running Windows 10 build 14316, those who stick with the slow channel are still on build 14295, so this new cumulative update is specifically released to improve performance on this version.

According to Microsoft’s official update description, there are no new features in this cumulative update, and it kind of makes sense. Cumulative update are generally releases that only fix bugs and address performance issues, and this is exactly the case of this new version too. “This package contains all previously released fixes,” Microsoft says on the KB page without providing any other details.

KB3154879 is the update to download

For those who are running Windows 10 build 14295, this update is listed in Windows Update as KB3154879 and should be available only if the computer is registered to receive new builds as part of the slow ring.

“If you have installed previous updates, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed to your computer. If you are installing a Windows 10 Insider Preview update package for the first time, the package for the x86 version is 2 MB and the package for the x64 version is 5 MB,” Microsoft explains.

On a different note, Microsoft is expected to ship a new PC build sometime this week, as the company delayed the last week release because of a last-minute bug. Since it’s already Wednesday, it’s either today or tomorrow for the arrival of this new build, as the company doesn’t usually release new versions and updates on Friday, unless it’s something that needs to be shipped as soon as possible.

Earlier this week, Microsoft’s Gabe Aul revealed that another build was nixed at the last minute because of a bug but confirmed that the Windows team was still aiming for a release this week.
