14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is indeed working to release the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on August 2, but at the same time, the company doesn’t want to leave behind users who are still running the 10586 version that the company rolled out in November 2015.
Today, Microsoft has officially shipped Windows 10 cumulative update 10586.456 to users enrolled in the Release Preview ring, as it wants to try and fix any potential bugs first before releasing it to everyone.
There’s no changelog available for the moment, but since it’s a cumulative update, it most likely brings fixes and performance improvements for certain features of the operating system, such as Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Cortana, and the Windows Store.
Most likely, Microsoft is trying to test out the new cumulative update ahead of the public launch on Patch Tuesday, the day when the company releases enhancements for its Windows systems, including cumulative updates for Windows 10. The next Patch Tuesday takes place on July 12, so Microsoft has approximately two weeks to test the new cumulative updates ahead of the public launch.
Work on Anniversary Update advancing at full speed
At the same time, Microsoft is also hard at work to get the Anniversary Update ready for the release on August 2, as the company has recently confirmed that this is indeed the date when the new version will launch for retail users.
Obviously, insiders will be the first to get the final build of the Anniversary Update, but for the moment, Microsoft remains tight-lipped on when exactly this is going to happen. The Windows Team is still evaluating builds and working with insiders to correct bugs and address performance issues, but the final build should be shipped sometime in the next few weeks.
It goes without saying that the Anniversary Update, also known as Redstone, is something that everyone should install, given the number of improvements that it brings on both PCs and mobile devices.
