No new build for mobile devices this time, though

Microsoft has just rolled out a new Windows 10 build for insiders in the Fast ring, but this time the release is only aimed at PCs, and mobile devices are once again left behind.

Windows 10 build 15046 comes with some important improvements, including a bit of color for Cortana on the taskbar, with the digital assistant returning to the color it had used before Microsoft started out experimenting with different visual makeovers.

Windows Defender is also getting some improvements, such as a system tray icon that displays the protection status at any given time, much like any other third-party antivirus system developed by other companies and available for Windows systems.

Then, there’s an update for picking up from where users left off in Cortana, a feature that is currently available for the en-US SKU only.

“We are experimenting with how we display what you can pick up where you left off across your devices in Cortana. Cortana now proactively shows you apps, files and websites from Microsoft Edge. Previously, this feature only displayed websites from Microsoft Edge in Action Center,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, explained today.

Lots of fixes

There’s also a new feature that makes it possible to block installation of Win32 programs on a Windows 10 computer, as well as an updated gaming settings icon, plus improved translations not only in OOBE but also across the entire operating system.

Microsoft has also implemented plenty of fixes and other improvements, and this perfectly makes sense since we’re only approximately one month away from the debut of Windows 10 Creators Update. People with knowledge of the matter said the update is due to reach RTM and be shipped to insiders in late March, while everyone else should receive it in April.

There are also some known issues in this update, and you can check the full changelog in the box after the jump. As mentioned, this build is only available for the Fast ring and there’s no mobile sibling just yet.
