Anniversary Update due to launch on August 2

Windows 10 build 14393 was released to fast ring insiders earlier this week, and now the company has made it available for those in the slow ring too, dropping a hint that this could actually be the RTM version of the eagerly anticipated Anniversary Update.

While there’s still no confirmation that 14393 is RTM, all signs seem to suggest that this is indeed the case, especially because Microsoft has shipped it to the slow ring, and we’re only about 10 days away from the public launch of the Anniversary Update due to take place on August 2.

Microsoft usually releases new builds to the slow ring when the majority of bugs have already been fixed so that users can experience better performance and a minimum number of issues. If build 14393 is indeed RTM, the company should make it available for the Release Preview ring anytime soon and then start preparing its debut for retail users on August 2.

Rollout in waves

Although the Anniversary Update will make its debut in early August, it could take longer than expected for some users to receive it, as the rollout will be provided in stages.

Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, has explained recently that, due to the number of Windows 10 devices, not everyone can get it at the same time, so the Anniversary Update will be shipped to retail users in waves. According to Microsoft’s most recent numbers, Windows 10 is running on 350 million devices, including here PCs and smartphones.

Whatever build is actually RTM, the release is just around the corner, so it won’t take long until everyone is updated to the first wave of Redstone. The next stop is Redstone 2, which, according to people with knowledge of the matter, should land in spring 2017 with many more improvements, including increased focus on mobile devices.
