PCs in the fast ring are getting the new build too

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 14371 for the fast ring a few hours ago, and it’s the PCs' turn to receive the very same build if they are enrolled in this fast track.

Windows 10 build 14371 for PCs brings just a new feature that concerns the way activation is performed on a desktop computer.

Microsoft says that it received plenty of complaints from users who were unable to activate their copies of Windows after changing hardware such as hard drives or motherboards. So with this new build, it introduces a new Activation Troubleshooter (available in Settings > Update & security > Activation > Troubleshoot) that guides you through the necessary steps to activate your PC successfully.

“For example - if your device has a digital license (formerly called “digital entitlement”) for Windows 10 Pro from a previously installed activated Windows 10 build but you accidentally re-installed Windows 10 Home on such a device, the troubleshooter will automatically guide you through upgrading to Windows 10 Pro and activate Windows,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, explained.

Just one known issue

Furthermore, with this build, the company is also introducing a new option that lets you link Microsoft accounts to the activation digital license.

“If you already used an MSA to log in to your activated Windows 10 Home or Pro device, your MSA will be automatically linked. You can use this MSA linked digital license to re-activate your Genuine Windows 10 device by running the Activation troubleshooter, if you run into Activation issues caused by hardware changes,” Dona said.

And just like expected, everything else is about bug fixes and performance improvements, which kind of makes sense since we’re approximately one month away from the moment when the Windows 10 Anniversary Update will go live for all users.

There are plenty of bug fixes, which you can find in full in the box at the end of the article, as well as a single known issue that causes networks of VPN connections in the network flyout on the taskbar to fail to launch.
