14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has officially rolled out the very first firmware update for the Surface Book 2, which went on sale across the world earlier this month.
The Surface Book 2 is the second generation of Microsoft’s so-called “ultimate laptop,” coming not only with substantial hardware upgrades, but also with a new 15-inch version that makes it a better rival to Apple’s MacBook Pro.
Microsoft seems very keen on addressing bugs on the new model as fast as possible, so the first firmware update is already available, bringing two sets of improvements depending on the Windows version running on the device.
As Neowin writes, some Surface Book 2 units shipped with the Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703) that launched in April this year, which is quite of weird given the fact that the device actually hit the shelves after the debut of the Fall Creators Update (version 1709).
Two firmware updates, one for each version
In this case, the Surface Book 2 is getting a display driver update to version 22.20.16.4840 to improve system stability, as well as a Surface UEFI update to 387.1879.769.0, again to address stability issues.
There are also updates to Surface Human Interface Devices (HID) drivers to version 1.19.136.0, Surface integration, Surface DTX, and Surface UCSI, all of them support to improve general system stability.
Systems that are running the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update are being provided with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 driver up to version 23.21.13.8808, which is required to support Windows Mixed Reality features. Additionally, they’re getting an update to Surface ACPI Notify Driver to version 5.15.136.0, while the Surface Integration Service Device module is being bumped to version 4.14.136.0.
As usual, the firmware updates are pushed through Windows Update and make sure your device is charged or plugged in when installing the new versions because otherwise you could hit some pretty serious issues due to a failed firmware update.
