Microsoft will release the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update on October 17 and one of the key security features for enterprises will be Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), which further enhances the shield against cyberattacks with better detection, more response capabilities, and updated analytics.

Today, Microsoft officially announced a public preview of Windows Defender ATP in anticipation of the debut of the Fall Creators Update, giving interested customers the chance to try it out to decide whether this is something that could come in handy to their organization.

The list of improvements coming to the Windows Defender ATP is huge and it all starts with an improved console that mixes security alerts from all Windows security features, including Windows Defender Antivirus, Windows Defender Firewall, SmartScreen, Device Guard, and Exploit Guard.

Timelines are generated using event reports, letting you easily see blocks generated by your software, attempts to run authorized applications, and warning messages when some clicks an URL flagged by SmartScreen.

90-day trial

Windows Defender ATP also integrates customized reported, which users can set up by creating a Power BI report, as well as security analytics that highlights configuration issues and out of date security running on computers within an organization.

The trial runs for 90 days with no feature limitations, and Microsoft says that customers who want to benefit from enhanced protection for their organizations should already start the testing phase to be prepared for the broad deployment of the Fall Creators Update.

“This focused security investment combines the best of Windows Defender ATP and the Windows security stack.  We integrated Windows 10’s new prevention technologies, enhanced our built-in sensors to better detect script-based attacks, added new response capabilities and opened up powerful analytics,” Raviv Tamir, Principal Group Program Manager, Windows Defender ATP, said.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will be released to users in the production ring on October 17, with insiders to receive the RTM build in early October or later this month.
