Insider Slow update now available for download

Microsoft has just released a new pack of updates for Office insiders, bringing a bunch of features that should become available to public customers once testing is complete.

Called January Insider Slow Update (technically, this is the second update published in January, as another pack of improvements labeled as “December” was also launched this month), the new release pushes Office 2016 version to 1701 build 7766.2039.

As far as the included improvements are concerned, one of the new features available to Office 365 subscribers is collaboration on attachments in real time. In other words, starting with this version, users can work on and manage files together.

“Uploading email attachments to OneDrive lets everyone work on the latest version of the file. Use the drop-down menu on the attachment to either upload a revised version or save a new version,” Microsoft explains.

More improvements for pen

Then, it’s an option that makes it possible to use the pen to manipulate objects, and this is quite an important improvement given the fact that Microsoft is so focused on overhauling its products with support for pen. This version enables users to grab objects with the Surface pen in Microsoft Word and perform a series of tasks, such as resizing, rotating, moving, and others.

The same update also includes a Visio add-in for Database Modeling, which is supposed to help planning the creation of a database, but also new education templates and diagrams covering a wide array of categories targeting students and teachers, such as algebra, chemistry, and physics.

Keep in mind that this Office update is only available to users participating in the Office Insider program, but depending on the number of bugs that the company comes across during this testing stage, it should be released to users sooner or later.

And it goes without saying that, given the fact that it’s an early release, some features might not work exactly as planned, but make sure you report any bugs you discover to the company and have them fixed as soon as possible.
