Mail and Calendar apps get new icons in small update

Microsoft keeps refining the Windows 10 experience as we get closer to the public launch of the new operating system on July 29, so today the company silently rolled out a small update for a couple of apps in the latest builds to update their icons.

It's a well-known fact that Windows 10 icons have created quite an Internet craze since build 9926, when Microsoft introduced a completely new pack, but contrary to Redmond's expectations, that new design wasn't so well received.

Instead, many criticized the company and asked for an overhauled look for the icons, which is exactly what Microsoft rolled out a few builds later.

Now, it turns out that Redmond doesn't want to stop and tries to make sure that it gets the Windows 10 icons right, so in a recent app update, it released new modern icons for the Mail and Calendar apps (both of which have been revamped for Windows 10 too).

Modern icons, minor UI refinements

As you can see in the screenshots, both the Calendar and the Mail app have new icons that seem to better align with the new design approach of Windows 10 and follow the same minimalistic push that the company has embraced for the new OS.

At the same time, there are also small UI refinements for both apps in the latest update, again as Microsoft is giving the final touches before the big launch next month.

If you don't see these icons just yet, look in the store for app updates and install them in the latest Windows 10 builds (10130 and the leaked 10147). Basically, the new app versions should already be there if you haven't changed the default store configuration, so you can also try to unpin and pin the icons back to the taskbar.

Windows 10 is projected to launch on July 29, so expect more such refinements to be rolled out in the next few weeks.
