Microsoft has recently released a new major update for the built-in Mail & Calendar app in Windows 10, as it finalized work on a set of new features supposed to enhance the experience with the official Outlook client on desktops and tablets.

First of all, it’s the personalization side of the app that got significantly improved with this new update. Starting with this new version, you can customize the background, accent color, theme, and calendar colors.

Previously, users were only allowed to change the wallpaper, so it’s very clear that Microsoft understood that customization options are always welcome and that’s why the company focused so much in this direction.

Starting today, users are also allowed to configure linked inboxes for multiple accounts, a feature whose basic requirements were introduced in late 2015.

“We’ve heard you love connecting multiple email accounts in the Mail app, and also wanted these in one view. In December, we released Linked Inboxes. Now you can select which of your accounts are linked and see all your emails from those accounts in one place without having to switch between them,” Microsoft said.

Cortana getting more and more improvements

And obviously, Cortana in Mail and Calendar also received new enhancements because improving the personal assistant has become a priority for Microsoft since the debut of Windows 10.

This new version introduces a feature that lets you add events to your calendar using Cortana and voice commands, as well as tools to start typing an email with Cortana and then continue adding text in the Mail app. More Cortana features for the Mail app will be added in the future, Microsoft guarantees, as work on improved functionality continues.

And last but not least, this latest update includes significant updates and bug fixes to optimize performance on PCs and make the app work faster and be more reliable.

“With each of the app updates we’ve released, quality of the experience in stability, sync reliability across your Windows devices, and accessibility are priorities for our team. Recent accessibility improvements to Mail app include a more predictable keyboard behavior, familiar navigation, and reliable reading for Exchange accounts with screen readers,” Microsoft explains.

As usual, the new version is shipped through the store, so simply fire up the Windows Store and get the update to benefit from all these improvements on your Windows 10 PC too.
